AUGUSTO & REMINGTON is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of artist Mimi Jung in Los Angeles. Through the systematic and meticulous processes of weaving or deconstructing a wide variety of unconventional materials—from luscious mohair yarns to synthetic utilitarian textiles, poly cord, and paper—Jung examines the space in between: weft and warp, process and material, viewer and art-object.

Exhibition on view at opening reception and by appointment only.

Augusto & Remington is proud to present ma ya pa rei do lia by Chris Vasell. The artist will be showing fabric-pictures, painting-pictures, sculpture and installation. Vasell´s works serve as a device suggesting appearance and light.

The artist will introduce works, indoors and outdoors, under the umbrella portmanteau of “ma ya pa rei do lia” (‘maya’ and ‘pareidolia’, and further, ‘ma’, ‘ya’, ‘pa’, ‘rei’, ‘do’, and ‘lia’). Generative and elusive, “ma ya pa rei do lia” could be an ocean grounded or groundless in a darkness, going toward a light that creates a face. Perhaps a face with a heart mouth, an owl nose, and two flying geese for eyes. Or a mirror we gaze into and at. And so on. Within this idea Vasell desires to convey that which invites or incites creation and display. It is an attempt at a past, a present, and a future all in a present.

Ambient and sunny surroundings charged with Vasell’s purity of desire will reveal moments of feeling and movement within focused streams of consciousness and intuitions: an interaction of everything and nothing.

In “ma ya pa rei do lia”, Vasell tends to reverie, allowing his humanity to blend with the universe. What appears at first glance and what appears after first glance gives way to an image repertoire of wisdom and desire and joy and prosperity.

Vasell has had numerous solos in galleries both in the U.S. and abroad, and has participated in exhibitions at several museums, including The Aspen Art Museum and Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. His work was included in the 2006 Whitney Biennial.
